Joystiq is reporting that the 120gb HD is being phased out. First reported as being discontinued in Europe, it has been confirmed that the phase out also affects N. America. It has not been made certain yet, but all signs point to the 250gb HD that has was supplied with such special collectors sets like the Modern Warfare2 bundle, will be the new standard. Stay tuned for more information.

Boosty
I certainly agree the 120GB is going out and yes a 250GB does sound more sporty. However, the pricing structure of the hard drives has always been ridiculous and needs serious addressing. Microsoft currently has 2 consoles, the Arcade which features no Hard Drive and the Elite, which features the current 120GB. Gone are the pro models which had the 20 and 60GB variants. Personally I still dont understand why Microsoft doesn't ship every arcade console with a 20GB hard disk. Honestly, its ridiculous to have an arcade model without some storage medium.
Boo.

Seeing as how I purchased my 360 on black Friday of this year, I wasn't willing to pay the extra $100 for the modern warfare pack. So, since they are phasing out the 120gbs they'll most likely be replacing them with the 250gbs which means that the price point can't increase very much. I mean, are they really going to give you two options: a $199 option with no HDD or a $399 option with no HDD and no medium in-between? I would think that since they are replacing it it would have to be the same price, or a tad bit more, than the Elite which means if I had held out longer would've gotten the bigger HDD for not much more haha. I'm always on the look out for good deals.

My only other question would be are they just going to replace the HDD on the system or are they upgrading the chipsets and everything (Since the new arcades have built-in memory and a new chipset that supposedly "prevents" the red ring)?

All the new consoles manufactured feature the new "Jasper" chips. These came out just over a year ago, and was present in the Red Elites back in Jan 09. I picked up one of these. The failure rates on them are non existent now. As for the built in memory, I have an arcade unit as well, which I bought in March 09 and it too has the built in Memory. But I think it was only for the arcades as they had no where to install the NXE update, which is why they shipped all arcades with the onboard memory.
